Spencer Ogg Packing Pods in Three Sizes

I ordered the Diane Spencer Ogg Packing Pods in Three Sizes from her website for £7.50 -- around $10 -- no shipping. The pattern includes a PDF pattern printout and access to an online tutorial at the Spencer Ogg channel on YouTube.

I made my packing pods with Moda's "Best of Morris Fall" package of 10-inch squares that I purchased on sale from Missouri Star Quilt Co. for about $17 plus shipping. That Morris precut is no longer available at MoStar, which is just as well, because the 10-inch cuts are really not appropriate for this pattern. I had to piece the precut squares and recut the pieced fabric to fit the pattern. Even fat-quarters would have worked better, but the Robert Morris reprints were too seductive to dissuade me from doing my best to make them work. The pods don't actually require a lot of fabric, but you do need a couple of longer slices to make the gussets.

The pods are lightweight and beautifully constructed, and the online video is, like all the Spencer Ogg tutorials, top notch. You can view a promo of the "Packing Pods" pattern by Diane Spencer Ogg on her YouTube channel.

The smallest pod measures about 7x5 x3.5-inches when packed, but folds up into a small packet when empty.

The medium pod is 11x7x4-inches.

The large pod is 12x9x4-inches.

Even though each pod is very lightweight and unstructured, they are not flimsey. Each seam is reinforced. A heavier #5 zipper is recommended, making the pod sturdy and easy to use.

Their page includes complete directions for making this one-size-fits-most apron with large, side-pockets and cross-back straps. This retro apron is so nicely made and looks so much like the apron my grandma wore in the Nineteen-fifties that I had to make one for my friend who appreciates the nostalgia and the beauty of this design. Although this apron pattern, as published, can adjust to several sizes from 2-10; I also made a larger option, adjusting the width of the pattern pieces to accommodate up to size 16 and up. Holiday weekender

I couldn't refuse the holiday-print, round table cloth I had bordered in red pom-poms forty years ago, even though she had slit the cloth to the center so that she could use it as a tree skirt. Sujata Shah's no-template piecing

16-inch, four-patch "pinwheel" block designed by Sujata Shah, pieced by Linda Theil 2016 Fabrics: Sturbridge line by Kathy Schmitz for Moda and Daily Zen line by Michael D'Amore for Benartex. I attended quilt artist Sujata Shah's "Pinwheel" class sponsored by the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor on July 17, 2016.
