Homeless kids need soap now

 "I have an urgent need for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner," Candice Olrich said. "The school year will be starting in a few weeks and hygiene items are heavily requested. I have some of those items in stock, but not much" 

Olrich is the Livingston Educational Service Agency's student services specialist assigned to assist homeless and displaced children in Livingston County. The "Education Project" program for homeless and displaced children serves between 300-500 children yearly and is funded through various government resources, but also relies on private donations and grants to directly meet student needs, according to the LESA website.

That's where we come in! If you can help stock the shelves with bodywash, hair conditioner, and shampoo, please send or deliver items to LESA, 1425 W. Grand River Avenue, Howell MI 48843. You can contact Candice Olrich at 517-980-2041, or candiceolrich@livingstonesa.org. If you prefer, send checks made out to LESA with "Education Project" or Candice Olrich's name in the memo line, and mail or drop off at the LESA address.

Olrich also accepts new socks and underwear for homeless and displaced kids, and gently used winter clothing, coats, boots, and hats/gloves/scarves. Please contact her to drop off items at LESA at your convenience.

Origami wallet

by Linda Theil This little Lewis Men's Wallet pattern by Diane Spencer-Ogg is one of the quickest and cleverest wallets I've ever seen. The single-pattern-piece construction folds  together like a work of origami. The wallet features several card slots and a slip pocket. Of the many fastening options available, I like the Velcro hook-and-loop fastener for security and ease of use. This little wallet is especially nice for kids. Diane's Archie

by Linda Theil Diane Spencer-Ogg, owner of Spencer-Ogg, Ltd. in Greater Manchester, UK, released a new mini-duffle pattern she calls "Arch Zipper Pouches" in two sizes with printable pattern pieces and video tuturial. Her video introduction can be viewed at the end of this post. As always, Spencer-Ogg has hit the ball out of the park with the elegance of her design and the precision of her process.
